What We're Learning This Week 9/19

What are We Learning September 19th - 22nd

History: 
Students will:

  • Identify major forms of government (autocracy, monarchy, dictatorship, representative and direct democracy, oligarchy, theocracy, anarchy)
  • Compare and contrast the major features of different forms of government
  • Analyze examples of real-world governments 
  • Describe five limits on government: constitution, separation of powers, rule of law, consent of the governed, and rights of the minority.
  • Evaluate the benefits and drawbacks of giving one leader total control.
Science: 
Students will: 
  • Describe force in scientific terms
  • Determine balanced and  unbalanced forces
  • Identify 6 contact forces and 3 at a distance forces 
  • Demonstrate Newton's laws
  • Create free body diagrams 
  • Accurately document a lab experiment
Course 3 Math: 
  • Lessons 7 - 10 
Literature: The Good Earth, Chapters 1 - 4
Students will: 
  • understand how to use specific literary terminology 
  • demonstrate comprehension of historical background concerning Pearl S. Buck 
  • develop an awareness of historical background concerning events taking place in China during the time Buck wrote her novel 
  • read critically and analytically to draw comparisons, make inferences, trace plot development, and evaluate theme
Reading: 
Students will: 
  • use paired texts to analyze information
  • compare and contrast paired texts

Writing: (Topic of the week: The Most Memorable Event of My Life)
Students will:
  • Use rich adjectives to engage the reader
  • Use all dress ups correctly
  • Use 4 sentence openers correctly in each paragraph
  • Use the checklist to improve their rough draft

Study Skills:
Students will:
  • Get their planner signed nightly
  • Plan ahead for needed supplies
  • Keep their desks clean to ensure quick transitions
